Soon in game: Operation "Hydra"
Soldiers!
The next update will bring a new Special Operation codenamed "Hydra", which was previously mentioned in the roadmap as the PVE-Arena. It should go live till the end of the year. "Hydra" differs from recent Special Operations, since it offers a more "meaty" gameplay and a new reward system.
Plot
Blackwood soldiers captured the sabotage squad "Vega-5" and Agent Noda who managed to prevent the extermination of colonists on Mars. Euroalliance troops cannot come to the rescue and are forced to retreat. The reason is an unceasing artillery barrage from the Blackwood mobile naval base called "Hydra".
General Lee Wharton decides to send another unit "Sigma-3" to "Hydra" to take over the Blackwood weapon. This will prevent Oberon White from leaving the island with the prisoners, while Euroalliance will be able to resume the offensive. "Sigma-3" fighters manage to get to the base. However, alert sounds summoning all "Hydra" personnel up from lower levels. They seek to destroy the Warface squad.
Gameplay
While creating "Hydra", the developers team decided to get back to the basics, making the gameplay intuitive and more "meaty" unlike that of the recent Special Operations such as "Pripyat", "Sunrise" and "Mars" that featured a large number of complex mechanics and a well-developed plot.
In "Hydra" players will have to defend a special terminal located in the center of the map, with each enemy wave being more dangerous than the previous one. In total there are 20 waves. During the last one players will become engaged in the final stand-off with a powerful boss.
"Hydra" will certainly remind you of the familiar "Cold Peak", "The HQ" and "Cyber Horde" SpecOps. However, the new mission will sport many unique features that will provide a completely new gaming experience.
The game cycle can be divided into the following stages:
- The beginning of the wave.
- The end of the wave.
- A respawn and a little breather before a new wave.
The map is divided into several sectors. The central one hosts the terminal surrounded with 4 “petal”-like platforms. Initially, players have access only to the central part, and the platforms begin to rise from under the water during certain enemy waves - after the 2nd, 5th, 9th and 14th waves increasing the battlefield space and opening up new opportunities.
Gameplay Features
Despite the intuitive gameplay "Hydra" sports a number of features that will never let you get bored during this mission!
- 3 players. Unlike other Special Operations, "Hydra" requires the team of three fighters. This will provide a more diverse gaming experience, an even closer cooperation and make class combinations more interesting for players to compose. In addition, you can quickly get into the mission.
- Enemy waves. You will have to repel 20 enemy waves, which will consist of Blackwood soldiers, cyborgs and mini-bosses. Note that the composition of enemy troops changes randomly.
- More "meat". Enemies will appear more often and in greater numbers than in other Special Operations.
- Resources. Throughout the Special Operation you will be able to get resources for destroyed enemy waves, particular combat achievements (for kill streaks or jump kills, slide headshot kills, defibrillator kills and so on) and from special chests. Resources can be spent on repairing the terminal as well as on auxiliary equipment acquisition.
- Auxiliary equipment. Using the resources gained you can purchase grenade launchers, defense turrets, laser and ballistic shields, which will greatly simplify the defense of the terminal and enemy destruction.
- Random events. Events such as auxiliary equipment power outage, increased number of attackers, as well as power barriers, poisonous gas, or smoke screens used by your adversaries can randomly appear on the map. It means that the same strategy will not do and you will have to adapt it to changing combat conditions on the go!
- Unique location. "Hydra" features a new specially developed setting with unique assets in neutral colours that increase the readability of opponents on the map.
- Reward system. "Hydra" employs a fundamentally new SpecOps mechanic where the reward depends on the number of repelled enemy waves. Read on to learn more about this system.
