Warface: Clutch against cheats

Preventing the use of potentially harmful software (including cheats) in our games remains one of the key directions of our team's effort. As of right now we focus on three processes. First, perfecting Mail.Ru AntiCheat (MRAC). Second, mending game client code exploits. Third, research and development of the new ways to fight cheating.

Mail.Ru AntiCheat

  • Perfection of MRAC (tech-wise)
  • Research into the existing cheat distribution platforms
  • Processing consumer reports

One of the key mechanisms in solving many of cheat-related issues is the use of an anti-cheat software such as Mail.Ru AntiCheat. MRAC is the Mail.Ru proprietary programme, currently supporting 8 world-class gaming titles.

MRAC effectiveness is widely dependent on its technical state. Our anti-cheat department specialists are updating the software daily by implementing new tools for effective cheat detection.

Social support is no less important in regards to MRAC overall effectiveness. As a part of these social measures we thoroughly monitor all available cheat distribution platforms, obtain the latest cheats and research them in order to include in the MRAC blacklist.

Last but not least, our game support experts process all the reports from players, which allows us to identify the significant part of dishonest users.

Game client updates

  • Identifying and mending client exploits
  • Increasing the protection of launch processes in Game Center
  • Implementation of additional server checks

Apart from our work on anti-cheat software, we pay a great deal of attention to the improvement of the game client in order to protect it from the influence of dishonest gamers. This part of the work is done both by Mail.Ru programmers (in terms of work on Game Center) and by developers at Blackwood Games in Kiev.

Our partners in Kiev continue working on the game to decrease the number of exploits that can be used for cheat creation.

Apart from this, our programmers implement additional server checks, which significantly complicate the process of cheat creation, without putting additional load on a server.

Development of new anti-cheat mechanisms

Our anti-cheat department’s key R&D initiative at the moment is the new technology implemented in the next generation of our anti-cheat software (MRAC 2.0). Unlike the current generation of anti-cheats, partially dependent on users’ reports, the new technology, enhanced by the use of artificial intelligence, will allow to automatically detect dishonest actions.

Implementation of this new technology will allow for quicker cheater detection, and the artificial intelligence will learn to identify dishonest players faster and faster as its time in operation increases.

At this time MRAC 2.0 is being developed. All news regarding it will be presented on this page.
